[Dreamweaver Talk]WebDAV and OS X Leopard
I'm having no luck giving clients WebDAV access to subdirectories of the web directory using WebDAV. Things I've determined include:
1. All clients with a realm pointing to the web subdir (everyone browse only; client browse/read/write) can connect using OS X's Connect to Server (using the WebDAV address, their username and pwd) and then can copy, delete and update.
2. All clients with a realm etc. *cannot* connect via Dreamweaver site remote tab with WebDAV selected (using exact same address, username and pwd as for 1 above). Well, this is more complicated in that sometimes I do seem to be able to confirm a WebDAV connection in remote pane and even see and download remote files, but I can't upload an updated file.
3. I can connect with several clients using GoLive's Connect to Server module and WebDAV protocol, although clients can freely move up out of their subdirs and roam around the entire web dir, including into other subdirs, which they cannot do using SFTP or OS X Connect to Server. I'm about the only one left using GoLive at the establishments where these issues are arising, so that's not much help and poses a security problem anyway.
We are using SFTP in the interim to enable clients to continue editing their web content, but would like to move away from that eventually.
I have an OS X consultant trying to help me and so far we cannot rule out the possibility that this is a Dreamweaver issue. It's entirely possible it's a combination of OS X Leopard and DW, or not DW at all, but we just can't seem to figure out what else could be the cause. This is especially bizarre since we're having this problem on two separate Leopard servers, and one of them was set up by a Apple- Certified Server technician, so one would hope he knew what he was doing.
So, if anyone knows of Dreamweaver-related WebDAV problems re OS X that sound similar to mine, please let me know what if anything you were able to do to resolve this.
