Dreamweaver CS3 is doing something very strange, and hopefully someone can point to a setting that is wrong.
I created a template that began with:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/News.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <meta name="author" content="George L Smyth" />
The code didn't validate because it didn't like the / to close the tag - fair enough. So I corrected the code and my template now begins with:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/News.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <meta name="author" content="George L Smyth">
When I create a page, apply the template, save the file and upload it everything is just fine. HOWEVER, when I bring the file back to edit it, the content is encapsulated within the first version of the template. I have no idea whatsoever where this might be coming from!
I have shut Dreamweaver CS3 down and brought it back up, I have recreated the cache, and this is still happening. I can verify that the code is using version 2 of the template when looking at it in another editor.
I have no clue where the old template information is coming from, nor why Dreamweaver is changing the code when bringing it into the editor.
If anyone has a clue as to what might be happening, I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers -
george
