Have a a couple more questions regarding the a preliminary page that I'm building. This is for a site revision.
History: Pages originally constructed using nested HTML tables, using CSS for font and display styling. This was an early effort, so construction techniques (and look) kept pretty simple.
Had a problem with the original CSS/Javascript defined drop-down menus, so on this round was attempting to eliminate that.
This version: Styled with nested CSS. Resizeable, although I'm having some issues with min/max sizes. Some graphic elements placed in order to display rounded corners.
Header bar and navigation elements generated from withing Fireworks, from PNG file. (1st attempt: exported as HTML with Javascripted dropdown menus. 2nd attempt (one currrently placed) exported as images with CSS scripting.
The problem and first question: Header bar elements and page are displaying correctly, but the dropdown menus are broken. I can't figure out if it's the Javascript or something else. currently Please note, although I can now read and diagnose CSS code, I don't know Javascript... and am having to rely on generated scripts. I can't troubleshoot it (yet) Am coming from graphic design background.
2nd question (for the pros) Is this page code structure getting too complex? Should I be stepping back a bit and going to lowest common denominator, i.e., just get a page up that works?
As I'm new at this and haven't worked extensively with anyone else (yet; am going to be working on some collaborative projects next month) I don't know where to draw the line as to what's "good enough" and what's good code.
The preliminary page is: http://www.velochic.ca/WorkinProgress/pages/ pf3_IPEX_cpv5.html It's in a password protected directory. Long in as "friends2008", password: "testing2008"
