Re: Backing Up Your Hard Drive - here's a lot of info for you.
Aziz,
You may want to look into Maxtor's new solution, it's an exernal hard drive, available in USB 2.0 or FireWire, it uses powerful backup software with the unit, and upon pressing a BIG button on the external drive sitting there on your desk, the software starts up and starts backing up your data to the drive. There are numerious reviews on this new drive from Maxtor, and all give it thumbs up.
Price is a bit heafty at this point, but it's a great drive. It essentially gives people who don't want to worry about backups a very easy way to do it, - just press the button whenever you wish and it backs up data automatically.
Yes, the software is VERY flexiable and you set up the parameters you want.......... check their site for info, the actual software is available a separate purchase if you wish from the company that makes it.
I have 2 external 100gig drives that I bought over at a local computershop, - just regular hard drives, and what I did was buy 2 external boxes for the drives.... www.lavalink.com - I got the boxes for $119 each..... one USB2.0 and the other is a FW box.
Here's the link to the Kazan ( USB 2.0 box ) http://www.lavalink.com/products/usb/prod_kazan.html
Takes about 10 minutes to open up the box, put the HD into it, and then attach the cable, screw it together and away you go. USB 2.0 is backward compatible to the pathetic USB 1.1 standard also.
Anyway, if you are in the States, those boxes are very very inexpensive, if you are a do-it-yourselfer....
I love the USB box, as I take it on trips to Mtl, and can take unbelievable amounts of data with me in this small box.... and everybody has a USB port..... ( even if they are usb 1.1 )
hope that helps.
Mark
