Boy, it will be nice when we get back to talking about Canadian milk and CSS files...
Hopefully as a mild reassurance to you, Ellen, the digest coming from the new list server is probably MIME attachments, which is just one of a couple of ways that list serving programs produce digests. We've heard from the Blueworld staff member responsible for making the changes that his first priority was to get the mail moving again, and the next priority was to re-establish the name and address of the senders (which has now happened).
This list, and the others hosted by Blueworld block someone from submitting attachments - as a protection against viruses (virii ?). The attachments you get from the list would be pretty clean - since they are generated by the list program and not sent on from someone else. If you set up a filter or rule in your email program to send DW list digests to their own folder, you could be confident that those attachments would be safe to open.
Now, depending on your email program, those attachments are easier or harder to read. Actually my old Eudora handled MIME digest attachments very easily and made it easy for me to walk through them.
Depending on the capability of Blueworld's new list server, and feedback from the list members, they may be able to switch back to the old style you're more comfortable with.
Moral of the story - take a breather for a day or two and see what happens, rather than making a quick decision to leave.
