Great analogy about Hollywood and the TV screen.
On another point, how can there be web designers so cheap out there, I don't know - for all the drama attached to the production... I'm in Australia, and there are some companies doing say a 4-6 page site for about $400, which would equate to about US$800, with enough change for a coffee or two.
Might I add, they are NOT designers, simply people who have bothered to work out the software, and their site shows it! I'm sure groups like this have popped up elsewhere.
In deciding what things are worth I have spent about a week researching and throwing scenarios at various types of website creators - those with design talent and those without. It's amazing the results. Pick a figure, any figure. My slogan is "Many produce, few design!". I've just had some DL size cards printed and this is one of the points I'm pushing. I'm having a great time - you can tell! I don't mind competition, but for goodness sake they should do a design course. It's okay, I'm over it now... Heather :-)
