Wow, I really appreaciate all the good input! It really helped clear up
my thinking regarding taking on this project.

I have no desire to be a programmer. The most hand-coding I want to do
is modifying javascripts. I do enjoy creating databases in FileMaker. It
may only be a relational database, but it is a very useful tool for
organizing data, and my creative challenge is found in creating the
patterns between links and making it function smoothly.

I'm the kind of artist who gets as much satisfaction in drawing an
electrical schematic as creating a brightly colored graphic. Each
project has a flow and pattern and requirements to be met...it's fun to
meet the challenge and make all the parts work together. Every now and
then creating a database just gets the brain waves functioning on a
somewhat different level.

Not only am I not a code jockey, but I would need so many software
upgrades and purchases that it wouldn't be financially worth my while.
AND I don't have the time to be learning new skills right now...I'm
already on a project where I will be making my first little Flash movie
and building a site in FrontPage (which I'm barely familiar with). No
point spreading myself too thin - I'm going to recommend he contract out
the database work.

I still have the desire to learn more about database/web relationships.
Databases are a very important part of a lot of websites and I hate
being as ignorent as I am.

So much to learn, and not enough time! Thanks to all for the great tips
and experiences.
