Actually Chuck, I didn't get a chance to check this out on my home system. I ended up re-arranging my computer/art studio last night and afterwards, went to bed and forgot all about this.
I cc'd myself about this so tonight, when I check my e-mail at home, I'll have it there to remind me.
But in the meantime, can you explain your last question for me? I'm not sure what you mean. Let me give you a couple of examples of my "real life" experiences and see if those might answer your questions.
As I mentioned before, I routinely get many Word documents that I have to put to the web. If the Word document is pretty short (say, 2-5 paragraphs or so), I've had no problems cutting and pasting from Word into DW. If you do this though, once all the text is inside DW, you will have to re-format it with CSS or (GASP!) your deprecated Font tags. One trick to get around that is when you select all the text in DW to be replaced, select all but the very first letter and then paste your new text on top of that (but don't forget to get rid of the original first letter though!). By doing this, many times, once the text gets pasted into DW, it maintains its previous settings.
If the Word document is fairly long and/or complex, I will convert it to "Word HTML" and then copy all the html code. In DW, I switch to code view and then paste in all my new Word html code and then tell DW to "clean up Word HTML". From there, I switch back to "split view" and make any adjustments or modifications that I deep appropriate.
Hope this helps.
