I suspected that downloading might not be possible to stop, but wanted to
check here.

I will probably end up doing as most of you have suggesed, and that is to
provide a low-rez or short clip for viewing.

How does using Flash stop the passer-by but not anyone who really wants to
get at my files? What steps are necessary for someone to download a Flash
movie that a passer-by might not be aware of or might not want to bother
with?

Academic stuff on iTunes? Guess I should get out more.

Anyway, yes, there is a lot of free material on the web, but most of the
free stuff isn't very good. I specialize in recording macro and microscopic
sequences and will be recording some new things that are seldom if ever
recorded or available. I agree, subscription and pay-per-download sites are
a tough sell, but a few places have been successful at it. Check out
http://www.cellsalive.com -- they've been very successful with downloads.
Actually, the download portion will only be a small part of my site and I'm
not banking too much on that part of it. I'm a video producer and will use
my site which will be encyclopedic in nature to promote and market entire
productions of mine.
