I am ashamed but extremely relieved to say that Michael has come up with the
solution!

When checking through some screen grabs of my setup (sent directly) he
spotted an error on the Testing Server setup screen. I was pointing the URL
Prefix at the actual site root folder rather than the root address that
processes the files - once I set it to:

http://127.0.0.1

It worked!

I can't believe that I had not tried this before! I will still keep my
fingers crossed every time I try to connect (at least for a while).

Many thanks to all you guys that helped with advice, sorry if I seemed
bolshy at times, but it was really getting me down.

Time to get on with some work :)
