Re: OT: Scanners - 30bit VS the new 48 bit scanners ?
While on the topic of scanners,
I have an old scanner - it's about 8 years old, an HP ScanJet 3C, cost about $1400. Canadian - ouch.
anyway with the scanners out today that are 48 bit, does anyone know if my old HP scanner which is rated at 30 bit evne compares ?
This scanner was top of the line back then, and I would assume compares to the HP scanners that are in the $600 range today, and not the $199 specials at Futureshop, but, since the new ones are 48 bit, what is this all about ?
Anyway hope somebody can shed some light on it.
Many of my friends have told me that today's scanners just blow away an older scanner like mine, but the scans I can produce still look like originals, - say if I scanned a page from a good quality magasine or a good family portrait.....
Anyway 30 bit, vs 48 bit... etc.... is there really any difference ? or does it come down to the actual quality of the optics in the scanner ?
Too complicated for me :-(
Thanks in advance, Mark
