Re: OT: portable mp3 player USB 2.0 specs.
USB 2.0 has a raw data rate at 480Mbps, and it is rated 40 times faster than its predecessor interface, USB 1.1, which tops at 12Mbps. Originally, USB 2.0 was intended to go only as fast as 240Mbps, but then, USB 2.0 Promoter Group increased the speed to 480Mbps in October 1999
FireWire transfers 400 megs per second transfer.
* Problem still wth USB 2.0 , hard getting drivers installed, and many people that own new motherboards that have USB 2.0 don't know how to get USB 2.0 to work on them..... Service Pack 1 for Windows XP has USB 2.0 support built in, but it doesn't automatically install, and so many people have no clue how to enable it.
FireWire, - just plug it up and let it rip, - so easy..... wish FW would become more mainstream on motherboards.
US2.0 is nice though, and super fast :-)
read up on Firewire here: http://www.storcase.com/tools/firewire.asp a very good article if you don't know what FireWire is all about.
What's so amazing about FW ?( for me ) ..... plug your digital camcorder into a mac or PC, ( with a FW port) and record video directly to your hard drive, without having to use digital tape . I do this all the time with my kids, - amazing !, and a real money saver !
Then just burn out the movie to a CDR in SVCD format, and play it on your home DVD player, before FireWire, you just couldn't do this, this easily, or nicely, and the quality of video is unbelievable.
( 1 hour of MiniDV quality video = 12.9 gigs. ) , if you record at highest quality, DVD format.
