Re: Responses to Obviously no one...
Thanks to all of you who replied to my frantic plea for help...
Sheri - I am using the MySQL 'root' and MySQL 'root password' in my connection settings, I have set up MySQL and it's root user following all the instructions on the entropy site. ---------------------------------------
Jord - I appreciate that everyone here is a volunteer, thanks for helping when you can. Using 'localhost' does not work either and as I mentioned the user privileges work fine when connecting to MySQL thru phpAdmin.
I think my frustration with this problem comes from the fact that I have RTFM and RTFBooks too - a pile of which now decorate my desk... But still I can't crack this one!
I wonder if there is some software conflict between the two root users - OSX and DWMX, I set up OSX 'root' to allow me to easily edit the Apache config for CGI, SSI, PHP etc. I am careful not to confuse the two 'roots' when using DWMX, but I wonder if this can be the cause...? ---------------------------------------
Michael Knauf/Niles - I can connect to MySQL monitor in Terminal using the settings used in Dreamweaver, however your example:
mysql -p root
will only connect if I am logged into OSX as 'root' user and then it looks for a database named 'root' because your syntax is wrong.
To connect when logged into OSX as the typical (not root) Administrator you have to use the following statement that explicitly names the connecting database user:
mysql -u root -p
then it works fine!
I am pretty sure that my users, passwords and privileges are all OK. I can connect and administer MySQL using phpMyAdmin - it's just DWMX that does see MySQL... ---------------------------------------
Thanks again all.
Ed.
---------------------------------------------------------------- Here's a brief recap of my problem:
Powerbook G4 512Mb RAM Hard Drive partitioned into 3 parts - OSX, SYS9, DATA External Hard Drive Firewire 60Gb
To try to solve the DWMX problem I have...
Just reinstalled OSX10.2 CLEAN again - wiped partition Upgraded to 10.23 Installed clean DWMX 6.0 Upgraded DWMX to 6.1 Switched on Apache Enabled CGI, SSI, PHP4 Using pre-installed PHP module - version 4.1.2 Downloaded and installed MySQL 3.23.53 from www.entropy.ch Downloaded and installed phpMyAdmin 2.3.3pl1 Using phpMyAdmin built fresh database - added tables and data from backup Created user for database, set up user privileges Fired up DWMX for first time Opened new dynamic page and setup local site only - leave remote for now Went to create 'MySQL Connection' and entered: Host 127.0.0.1, User 'root'(MySQL), password - 'root password'(MySQL) Select a database - and here's the problem - DWMX tries to find database - you see 'testing database connection' dialogue Then comes back with - 'An unidentified error occurred'
This is the same recurring problem I have had for over a week now.
Will anyone help??
