52 seconds ? - all I can say is yikes. If it is really that long, then a preloader is a must. Nobody is going to sit there and watch a blank screen for that long, let alone 15 seconds, they will click out of there, or go to another site. - for most anyway. Anyone on a cable connection won't even see the load time, it was pretty fast.
I've been on cable modem now for about 4 years and I'm spoiled, and you tend to forget how long stuff takes to load on a regular modem connection. Though they (56k) are a dying beast, I am going to guess most people are still connected that way.
The whole animation / music sequence is 1 swf file, if the images were loaded seperately, this would really help out the situation, and the user would not see the load time at all, but since there is music and a transition, this is made harder.
If the client is fine with 52 seconds, then why touch it I guess, but adding a preloader should be added, to give people a hint that there is something going on.
Ever been to a party, and there is a pause in the music when the D.J. is changing the music ? - same feeling goes .
