the last thing I wanted to do was jump into this activation debate :o)
but, I have unfortunately heard of many local non-profits that are sharing unlicensed software amongst themselves. Or using it on machines donated to them on which it was already installed (that's probably more common than anything). In one particular instance, I convinced them to use a budget surplus to "buy" software, novel concept that that is. Ironically, they have yet to install it and its been almost a year. In another instance, I suggested to them the risks and hassles far outweighed the benefits, but the response I got was that "you can't get blood from a stone".
I've been told by acquaintances that it's common practice because of budgetary restrictions--and SOME seem to think it's okay because no one is actually profitting monetarily from said use.
Of course, not all non-profits do this--most don't--and many try to outsource and have pro bono work done (which is how I happened to come about this little gem of information), but it is more common than it should be. It's not that I don't sympathize with them or that I'm pointing a finger--I understand the monetary constraints they are constantly struggling under and that's why I try to do my bit. I just was a bit taken off guard by how widespread (and accepted) I was being told it was--seems a bit of a double standard ??
And now this stay at home mom better get to work--I just got a notice that my upgrade of InDesign just shipped! (I decided to upgrade the different packages separately). Anybody got the new PS yet?
:o)
