talking about layers in DW,

I hate to even mention this, but I've never used a layer, and have no clue
what they are for.

Do most of you use layers ?

I thought just drawing in your tables, then a table within a table then your
cells
or whatnot was the way everybody did it.

I've never opened any .html file that looked "different" .... as in perhaps
having a layer
system in them.

Ok dumb question, but I guess it's about DW so it's on topic :-)
